Wockenfuss, Whitehead Represent Wildcat Heritage in International Football Game

MONTREAL – Two former Central Mountain Wildcat football players making their mark at the collegiate level this spring. One as a player, another as a coach. The Alfred University Football team from Alfred, NY took on the Montreal All-Star team consisting of free agents looking to make their way into the Canadian Football League. Alfred University won the 2018 Classique by a score of 19-6.

Playing for the Saxon from Alfred was sophomore lineman, Spencer Wockenfuss, a 2016 graduate of Central Mountain and is a defensive end for the Saxon. Wockenfuss studying Mechanical Engineering at Alfred. Wockenfuss played at Central Mountain as a starting offensive tackle under both Michael Nines and Jim Renninger. Wockenfuss was a co-captain his senior year for the Wildcats. He was recruited by Holden Whitehead, a graduate assistant coach for the Alfred Saxons.

Whitehead also played for Central Mountain graduating in 2012. Whitehead then attended Alfred University to continue his football career, playing four seasons the Saxon. Whitehead graduated from AU with a bachelors degree in Clinical and Counseling Psychology, then decided to accept a graduate assistant coaching job while he pursues a masters degree in School Counseling. Entering into third year as a graduate assistant coach, Whitehead has coached linebackers and now specializes in coaching the defensive line, specifically defensive ends.

“It was great opportunity for our players to experience another culture in Montreal Quebec,” said Whitehead of the game, “We played a great game against a talented all-star team and won 19-6. The defense did some really good things for us only allowing only one score at the end of the game. We are excited for the upcoming season in the fall.”

The game was played this past Saturday, the 19th in Montreal Canada and was played using Canadian rules, including 12 players on the field, a 110 yard field and an additional 10 yards from sideline to sideline.
