Mifflin County Hands CM 85-19 Loss

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – It was another tough loss for the Lady Wildcat basketball team, but there were signs of improvements for the squad to build upon in their 85-19 loss to Mifflin County.

Central Mountain was not intimidated by the Lady Huskies and showed their determination by taking the the opening tip-off which Marissa Moyer would lay up and in for a 2-0 CM lead. That lead would only last about 30 seconds and would be the last lead for the Lady ‘Cats on the night. That too, would not deter the CM as they would continue to fight on, though consistent scoring would prove to be elusive against the Mifflin County defense.

Mifflin County used a balanced attack at both ends of the court and took full advantage of Central Mountain turnovers to roll to a 28-4 advantage at the end of the first quarter and a whopping 48-10 lead at the break.

The Lady Wildcats came out in the second half and produced 9 points in the third quarter, though Mifflin County added 26 points to their tally for a 74-19 lead with 8 minutes remaining. The Lady Huskies would then shut out the hosts in the final period while adding 11 points to their total for the 85-19 win.

“We were more aggressive shooting the ball tonight,” said CM head coach Terrance Green, “I was pleased that when we got our looks, we took our shots. Summer Flanagan had an outstanding game tonight, she played very well.”

“Overall, we still have a lot to do defensively but I’m proud of the positive improvements we were able to see tonight,” added Green,

It has been tough going for CM in the early season now 0-3 having faced Berwick, Wyoming Seminary, Mifflin County and a looming road trip to DuBois later this week.

“We told the girls the first four games will be a gauntlet for us,” explained Green, “Hopefully we can weather the storm. We have two days to get ready for DuBois, we hope to pick up the pieces and move on.”

Summer Flanagan led CM offensively dropping in 11 points included a 3 pointer. Morgan Wetzel followed with 4 points and some tough inside play while Talyn Fredericks and Marissa Moyer each had 2 points to their credit.

As noted earlier, the Lady Wildcats will head west on I80 this Thursday, Dec. 14 for a non-league contest.
