CM Battles Hollidaysburg to the Wire, Falling 4-3
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Central Mountain after trailing Hollidaysburg 2-0 at the intermission, the Wildcats picked up the pace and battled back to tie the score late in the second period but the Golden Tigers prevailed 4-3 with a score just minutes later.
Hollidaysburg kept the pressure on Central Mountain in the early going, though the Wildcat defense repelled each attack until 29:04 in the match when the ‘Cats were penalized with a foul about 20 yards out. Hollidaysburg attacked on the free kick which, CM keeper, Nick Andrus blocked, the ball ricocheted off a defender, Andrus stopped it again. Then on the third attempt in continued play, the Golden Tigers finally got the ball past Andus for the 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats would make forays into Golden Tiger territory in the first period, they too were repelled by Hollidaysburg.
Then with 2:58 remaining in the first period, the Golden Tigers took a 2-0 lead and held that score into the break.
Hollidaysburg would extend their lead early in the second period for a 3-0 advantage but the Wildcats wouldn’t fold. They attacked back.
First it was Jensen Brown with an assist from Matt Storeman 16 minutes into the second period, then less than a minute later, Storeman would score again to close the gap to 3-2 in favor of Hollidaysburg.
Alec Leuthold then knot the score for CM with just under 10 minutes remaining at 3-all and another assist from Storeman.
Unfortunately, Hollidaysburg found a way to prevail with yet another score and a 4-3 lead with 8 minutes remaining.
Hollidaysburg held a 19-11 edge in shots on goal and a tighter lead in corner kicks at 5-2.
Andrus recorded 10 saves behind a solid defensive effort by the Wildcats.
Central Mountain, now a 3-4-1 will next see action Monday, Oct. 2, 2017 when they host Shikellamy.
