Experienced Millionaires Rout Inexperienced Wildcats 39-12

cm-footballWILLIAMSPORT – A veteran and skillful Williamsport football team was too much for an inexperienced Central Mountain squad, the Millionaires taking the 2016 opener by a 39-12 score Friday night.

The Wildcats under first year coach Jim Renninger hung with the talented Millionaire team through the first quarter, tied at 6-6 midway through and down 13-6 after the first twelve minutes. But starting quarterback Isaiah Hankins riddled the Wildcat secondary throughout the first half, part of a 19-0 second quarter blitz on the way to a 33-6 halftime score.

Hankins, a 5-10 senior, completed his first 11 passes and finished the night with 201 yards on an 11-for-12 showing good for three touchdown tosses of 68, 25 and 25 yards. He was backed by sophomore running back Treyson Potts who had three scores as part of a Williamsport ground attack totaling 227 yards.

Virtually all of Central Mountain’s offense came from senior quarterback Justin Neff. He had a 98-yard first quarter kickoff return, the ninth of his Wildcat career and scored CM’s second touchdown on a 67-yard run in the final quarter. Backup junior quarterback Austyn Carson was next with three carries for 28 yards.

Meanwhile a veteran Williamsport defense held Central Mountain to 183 yards of offense while the Millionaires amassed 502 yards from the line of scrimmage. Neff finished the night with 11 rushes for 108 yards but was able to complete but one of ten passes and had two picked off by a tenacious Billtown defense.

Central Mountain battled throughout and the coaching staff had a chance to give many of the 70 squad members some varsity work. The Wildcats are on the road again next Friday at Hughesville. The Spartans won their opener tonight by a 26-23 score over Lewisburg.
