Wildcats Take Down Selinsgrove 54-14
District 6 Duals Up Next this Saturday
SELINSGROVE—Coach Biff Walizer’s Central Mountain wrestling team gave every indication it is ready for Saturday’s District 6 team dual championships at Tyrone; the Wildcats tuned up with a 54-14 dismantling of Selinsgrove Tuesday night.
Central Mountain threw a little bit of everything at the overmatched Seals, taking 11 of the 14 bouts, piling up a season-high 38-6 edge in takedowns to go along with four falls, two technical falls, two major decisions, two regular decisions and a forfeit.
The victory put Central Mountain at 10-0 on the year, the loss leaving Selinsgrove at 7-9. Next up for the Wildcats is the semifinal round at the district team duals in the Tyrone High School gym Saturday at 10 a.m. The opponent will be Philipsburg-Osceola (8-7). The Mounties fell 51-23 to Clearfield on Tuesday, surrendering eight pins in the process. Mifflin County and Bellefonte will meet in the other semifinal, semi winners wrestling for the district crown and a trip to the PIAA team duals Feb. 11-13 in Hershey.
At Selinsgrove the Wildcats got deck jobs from Cody Coleman (10-7), Colton Weaver (20-6), Tanner Weaver (17-10) and Greg Stahl (7-7). Technical falls were recorded by Logan Long (16-10) and Asher Corl (9-9). Majors came from Geo Barzona (21-2) and Bryce Bitner (18-9). Seth Andrus (16-8) had a regular decision as did Isaac Porter (19-4). Porter picked up a 6-3 win over the Seals’ Aaron Boob (20-7), a defending District 4 champion.
The night’s most anticipated bout did not take place. The Wildcats’ Hunter Weaver (22-3) was scheduled to wrestle the Seals’ Andrew Boob but the latter, a defending northwestern regional champ, was scratched due to a knee injury, Weaver taking the forfeit.
The Wildcat junior team downed Selinsgrove by a 60-27 score.
