Wildcats Done in by Dragons 37-0

cm-footballLEWISBURG — The Central Mountain football team has had better days than its 37-0 defeat at Lewisburg Friday night.

The Wildcats went into the game without three 2-way starters in Justin Neff, Bryce Mansfield and Tyler Zablocki. Their absence and a solid (4-1) Lewisburg team proved too much to overcome for the now 2-3 Wildcats.

Central Mountain had trouble sustaining its offense all night long and the defense spent a long time on the field as the home team scored once in the first quarter, two more in the second, two more in the third, along with a field goal in the final period.

In Neff’s absence sophomore Austyn Carson gave it his best shot at quarterback and started out the game on a 5-for-5 showing but as the night went on Lewisburg took away any passing success until Carson had to leave the game with an injury in the second half.

The Wildcats were held to 177 total yards. The bulk of that came on the ground, 131 yards in all, senior Hunter Weaver with his best running of the season, totaling 107 yards on 22 carries. Carson added 25 on 5 carries before his injury and Weaver’s younger brother Tanner carried 3 times for 18 yards. Follow sophomore Seth Andrus caught two passes for 9 yards and Hunter Weaver had two receptions for 7 yards.

Coach Mike Nines was able to get all the healthy players on his 60-team roster into the contest and CM battled throughout but couldn’t keep pace with a balanced Lewisburg attach which produced 139 yards rushing and another 164 passing for a total of 303 yards in offense.

Central Mountain may or may not have several missing starters back next Friday night when Shikellamy (0-5) comes to Malinak Stadium. The Braves were whitewashed 40-0 by Montoursville Friday. A year ago Shik downed the Wildcats by a 21-7 score.
