Bucks Travel to Carson Long

by Jim Morgan

bucks-footballFARWELL – Head coach Bruce Ransom and his banged-up gang of Bucktail Bucks will be heading to New Bloomfield Saturday, looking for a win and to get healthy against Carson Long Military Academy.

But injuries are adding up quickly from week to week. Quarterback Mike Casper and running back Josh Marr both suffered sprained wrists last week. Defensive tackle Zack Cummings is having concussion symptoms and will start doing the concussion program to be cleared before playing again. Running back Anthony Intallura suffered a big blow last Friday on a run and will be monitored till further notice. Casper, Marr and Intallura will be questionable up until game time on Saturday.

What looked like a good match up last Friday night, Cowanesque Valley (1-3) came in and just blasted the Bucks (1-3) 49-16. Bucktail was very flat in the first half as CV just did whatever they wanted to do as they went in at half time up 28-0. Bucktail could not find a first down in the first half as the CV defense just hit hard. The hits started taking a toll on the Bucks as three players were sidelined for the second half.

CV scored on four big plays in the first half as the first one was a 90-yard run for a touchdown with 9:07. This was after a nice punt to the ten yard line by senior Keifer Mason. Bucks defense held CV for two downs before letting the quarterback run right up the middle for 90 yards. On their next possession CV was back up to their own five yard line before CV scored on a 95 yard pass for the touchdown, leading 14-0.

In the second quarter, it was all CV as they scored on a 37 yard run, then another pass play which covered 50 yards for the score at the 3:51 mark. In the second half, CV received the kick-off and marched 52 yards for the score. This was capped off on a 15 yard touchdown. CV completed the two point conversion for a score of 36-0 which at this time put the game into the mercy rule with 9:43 left in the third quarter.

With Casper hurt, junior Mitch Intallura was guiding the Bucks down the field as they received their first first down. Blake Cannon and brother Brice Cannon started to find running room as M. Intallura was sweeping to the outside. Br. Cannon scored from three yards out at the 2:57 mark, Mason on a QB keeper for the two point conversion as it was 36-8. But on the following kick-off, CV ran it all the way back from 81 yards out for the score (42-8).

Bucktail would come back in score again in the fourth quarter as Bl. Cannon would score on a 5 yard run as Br. Cannon carried the ball in for the two point conversion (42-16) CV. But again after a 75 yard kick-off return to the Bucks’ 9 yard line, CV would punch it in from one yard out for the final score of the night.

Yes, Bucktail is bruised up and there is no time to rest the wounded as Carson Long (0-1) is not going to be worrying about the Bucks.  They have been looking for a win for a long time. Bucktail will travel to Carson Long for a Saturday afternoon game which will start at 3:30 p.m. Carson Long has only played one game this far on their schedule as they lost to Hancock High School, MD 55-25.
