For the Record – June 4, 2015

If you build it, they will come …

If you think about it, Renovo is a good example of the above. While not an exact quote from the movie “Field of Dreams,” outdoor events organized in recent years in the Renovo area are bringing people by the hundreds into western Clinton County. Many who may never even have heard of the area before the events were developed.

The Hyner Challenge for instance, brings more than a thousand runners here in April, the Prowl the Sproul in July brings hundreds here for hiking and running, the Dirty Dabbers bring motor cyclists in June and perhaps the baby of the outdoor events, the Cruise for a Cure ATV ride is also bringing hundreds of people to the area. These are just some of the events bringing people here and in addition to introducing them to one of the most scenic areas of Pennsylvania, their visits contribute to our economy to some extent or other.

Cruise For A Cure …

As I said, the Cruise for a Cure is the baby of the group – this is the fifth year for it. When it began in 2011 there were some 40 ATVs registered. This year over 260 machines and nearly 350 entrants are expected at Heritage Park Saturday. The Renovo Cruise for a Cure has fast become one of the largest events of its kind!

This year, according to a news release from Bucktail Medical Center, eight groups of ATV’ers will be led along a 63 mile guided ride through some of the most scenic areas in the Pennsylvania Wilds from Renovo to Cross Fork. There are planned stops along the route to allow for a break and to linger at some of the best views Clinton County has to offer.

The Renovo Cruise for a Cure is sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association. It is sponsored by the Central Mountains ATV Association, Inc.

BMC Relay for Life Team …

The Renovo ATV Cruise for a Cure event is hosted by Bucktail Medical Center ‘s Relay for Life team. The team has raised more than $30,000 since it began in 2005. Every dollar of the proceeds they raise goes to the Clinton County Relay for Life Chapter in Lock Haven.

Relay for Life uses the funds to help local cancer patients afford transportation to and from treatments and appointments, get necessary medications and prosthetic devices and helps patients and families when they need it most.

Graduation weekend …

Congratulations and good wishes are extended to the graduating seniors at Bucktail and Central Mountain high schools.

Sliding into second …

Speaking of school, rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, that sliding into second on the girl’s ball field is almost guaranteed. The geese droppings make the field as slippery as ice would.

The Indian Tree …

Rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, but we’ve heard a huge “Indian Tree” is down in North Bend. We’re interested in learning why the tree is known locally as the Indian Tree. Information is welcome.

Rumor has it …

Rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, but we’re hearing local veterans are being referred to Bucktail Medical Center for some checkups. This is one rumor many are hoping that clues are true. More to come on this later.

Bake Sale …

The Bucktail youth group will be selling baked goods at Service Garage in North bend (formerly Dremel’s) from 9:00 a.m. – 12 p.m on Saturday, June 6 to raise money for their Summer Retreat. Proceeds benefit the Summer Retreat. Donations of Baked Goods would be greatly appreciated. Anyone that would like to donate a baked good can drop them off between 8:30-9:00 a.m.
