Obituary – Rita G. (Wheeler) Sanford
Rita G. (Wheeler) Sanford, 83, of Watsontown, formerly of Westport, died Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at Geisinger Muncy Hospital.
She was born on January 15, 1942 in Renovo and was the daughter of the late William and Sybil (Fisher) Wheeler.
Rita married the late William M. Sanford and they celebrated many years of marriage together until his death in July 2008.
She was a graduate of Renovo High School, Class of 1959. She then went on to work for and retire from Santander Bank, Renovo after 22 years.
Rita was a member of First United Methodist Church, Renovo, The Eastern Star, Renovo Woman’s Club and the Ladies Lion’s Auxiliary Club, Watsontown. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and sewing.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law; Richard W. “Rick” and Ann Sanford of Crossfork, three grandchildren and their spouses; Jessica and Jeremy Whitmoyer, Shaun and Rebecca Sanford and Chelsie Hauck, four great grandchildren; Andrew, Eliana, Adelaide and Prudence and one sister and brother-in-law; Billie and Ed Schnars of Lock Haven.
In addition to her parents and husband, Rita was preceded in death by one daughter; Terri Hauck, one grandson; Seth Hauck and one sister; Melody Dynes.
A public viewing will take place from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. on Friday, November 7, 2025 at Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 Fifth Street, Renovo followed by the funeral at 2:00 P.M. with Martha Sykes officiating. Burial will follow in North Bend Cemetery.
