u-way-logoLOCK HAVEN – Lock Haven University’s East Campus gym Saturday will be the site for the fourth installment of the Clinton County United Way’s Trash to Treasure event.

Donated items left over from the end of the school year at Lock Haven University will comprise many of the items inside the old Lock Haven High School gym on W. Main St. but community members may also provide donations through this Friday.

The public is invited to participate on the purchasing end of the deal beginning Saturday at 7:30 a.m.

United Way executive director Angela Harding provided The Record with these “nuts and bolts” facts on the fundraising event:

Saturday, 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. LHU East Campus Gym ($5 7:30 a.m. early bird admission price; after 9 a.m. admission is free)…
Partnering with Lock Haven University, the United Way collected all LHU student donations and will now accept community donation.

If you have reusables lying around or maybe you or a friend/family member is having a yard sale, this is the perfect outlet. We will accept donations until May 29.

What happens to items not sold?
We will give our agencies the opportunity to peruse the floor at 2 p.m. for any items they may need.

At about 2:30 p.m., Harding said, remaining items will be dispersed:

Goodwill- all clothing and bedding … Salvation Army – furniture and wares …
Wayne Twp. Landfill- all recycling including electronics, books, cardboard …
Best Self Storage – UW stores items that can be resold in the future that do not fit the above categories.

Food collected from LHU students will be donated to the appropriate community organizations.

Harding said the United Way will not throw anything away if they don’t have to. “The objective is the least amount of landfill space as possible. Love Disposal provides removal of any refuse.”

“As always, all monies received will assist in the funding of our 16 Partner Agencies, who in turn provide over 25 programs in Clinton County,”
 added Harding.
