Keystone Opens State Tournament With 5-0 Win Over Morrisville

FAIRCHANCE – The Keystone 10-12 Majors All-Stars couldn’t have asked for a better start to the state tournament, shutting out the Morrisville Riverdogs 5-0 in their opener Monday afternoon in Fairchance, Pa.

Keystone wasted no time getting on the board. In the top of the first inning, Adam Meyer launched a two-run homer to center field to give his team an early 2-0 lead. That would be all the support he needed on the mound.

Meyer delivered a brilliant outing, tossing 4.1 innings of one-hit baseball. He struck out five, walked just one, and needed only 50 pitches to do it. Giovanni Cej came in to close the door, recording four strikeouts in 1.2 innings of relief with just 21 pitches.

Brooks Warner added to the Keystone lead with a solo shot to center in the fourth inning. Warner finished the day with two hits, as did Meyer. Carter Leone and Hunter Kisko each added a hit to round out Keystone’s six-hit performance.

Box Score:
Keystone – 2 0 0 3 0 x – 5 runs, 6 hits, 1 error
Morrisville – 0 0 0 0 0 0 – 0 runs, 1 hit, 2 errors

The defense was sharp behind the dominant pitching duo, committing just one error on the day.

With the win, Keystone advances to the winner’s bracket and will be back in action Tuesday night at 7 p.m., taking on the winner of Glenmoore and Hermitage as they continue their quest for a state title.
