Errors and big second inning costs Bucktail baseball at Sullivan County

By Bees O’Brien

Laporte- Bucktail baseball coach Casey Friese would rather soon forget his Bucks’ nightmare second inning at Sullivan County on Thursday afternoon. Sullivan County took advantage of 8 Bucktail errors and scored an incredible 13 runs in the bottom of the second inning.

The Bucks started off hot by scoring 3 runs in the top of the first in a game Bucktail was favored in against a 1-win Griffins’ team.

Sullivan County scored a single run in the first inning before their huge 13-run second inning.

Bucktail scored a pair of runs in the top of the third inning, but still trailed 14-5. The Griffins crossed 5 more runs over the next two innings to enforce the 15-run mercy rule and gain their second win of the season by a 19-5 count.

With the first annual Bucktail Baseball Tournament debuting on Saturday Friese was forced to use multiple arms on the hill. Gavin Pick got the start, but Keller Friese, Cael Dorman and Thomas Tarantella all seen pitching time.

Ethan Kalafut led Bucktail’s offense with 2 hits. Cael Dorman added a double. Keller Friese, Ethan Charcalla and Gary Whipp also added hits for the Bucks.

Bucktail (2-8) will next play in their own tournament on Saturday. Canton, Benton and Sugar Valley completes the 4-team field.
