Bucktail Softball Opens 2025 Season with Special Scoreboard Dedication, Falls to Hughesville
FARWELL β The Bucktail Lady Bucks opened their 2025 softball season with a meaningful tribute and a tough battle on the diamond. Before the first pitch, the team and school community gathered to dedicate their new scoreboard in memory of former player Maggie Clemente.
Maggie, who played for Bucktail before the programβs recent run of success, raised the funds for the schoolβs previous scoreboard as part of her senior project. In honor of her contributions and character, Mike Poorman and the Bucktail Booster Club ensured her legacy would live onβher name now proudly displayed on the new scoreboard that will watch over the field for years to come.
After the ceremony, Bucktail took on a strong Hughesville team in their season opener, falling 9-3.
Hughesville struck early with two runs in the first inning and broke the game open with a four-run seventh. The Spartans tallied nine runs on seven hits and committed no errors. Bucktail finished with three runs on nine hits and one error.
Eva Sockman delivered the highlight of the game for the Lady Bucks with a solo home run rocket to left field late in the contest.Β Angel Kmetz led the offense with two hits, while Bucktail also got contributions at the plate from Lola English, Makenna Stone, Kendall Wagner, Matti Mason, Carrie Ditty, and Hayleigh Dent.
Freshman Carrie Ditty went the distance in the circle for Bucktail. She allowed seven hits and nine runs while walking six and striking out eight. The Lady Bucks struggled defensively, committing eight errors.
Hughesville senior pitcher Ella Breneisen tossed 5.1 innings, allowing eight hits, two runs, three walks, and striking out six. Jayla Koser led the Spartans with three hits. Other Hughesville hits came from Maddie Smith, Breneisen, Kiana Peck, and Addison Henninger.
Bucktail (0-1) will look to bounce back in their next outing hosting Sugar Valley Rural Charter school on Thursday 4:30p.m. first pitch.
