Dangerous Ice Storm, Some Snow Expected Wednesday into Thursday Morning

By Christopher Miller
LOCK HAVEN – By now, you may have heard the news that a significant ice event will be coming our way Wednesday evening through Thursday mid-morning.
Though official warnings or advisories have not been issued as of Tuesday afternoon, weather predictions can be seen from Accuweather, The Weather Channel, and the National Weather Service.
Some sources claim that up to 0.25″ or more of ice may fall between Wednesday night and Thursday mid-morning. A coating to an inch of snow may also be possible, with a changeover to sleet as temperatures rise Thursday.
Despite the predicted low-40 degree temperatures on Thursday, ice will be the main concern in the Wednesday overnight and early morning hours on Thursday.
So how can you prepare?
  1. Buy extra rock salt
  2. If you must travel, consider adding weight to the back of your car for traction (salt bags, sand bags, etc.)
  3. Keep cell phones and devices plugged in and fully charged in the event of a power outage
  4. Purchase gallons of water or fill gallon jugs in the event of a power outage
  5. Buy extra food including canned goods
  6. In the event of a power outage, store frozen or refrigerated goods in a cooler outside
And as always, keep an eye out for ever-changing weather and travel conditions. Another wintry event may be in the works for Saturday/Sunday.
