LHU’s Swimming soars to victory over Penn State Altoona
ALTOONA– The Lock Haven women’s swimming team returned to action on Friday (Jan. 17) by traveling to Penn State Altoona for a non-conference dual meet. Lock Haven downed the Lions 155-86.
Competition took place inside Penn State Altoona’s Adler Natatorium.
The Bald Eagles returned to action from the holiday break for the first time since Dec. 13, when they hosted Millersville for the program’s Senior Day.
The victory over Penn State Altoona was the first for The Haven since prior to 2009 and avenges a one-point loss to the Lions last season. The Bald Eagles also improved to 2-3 on the season.
The Haven started off with the quartet of Nora Craig, Sydney Houck, Emma Pequignot and Alaina Cane winning the 200-yard medley relay (1:58.52).
Holly Cleworth dominated the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.90), with the second-place finisher six seconds behind her. She also won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.23, winning by one second.
Craig finished in second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:09.60.
Houck won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.97.
Pequignot dominated the competition in the 200-yard butterfly with the time of 2:28.94. The next closest finish was nearly 14 seconds behind her.
Cane won narrowly in the 50-yard freestyle by .44, with a good time of 26.52. She also won the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.77).
Madison Bortner, freshman, won the 200-yard backstroke (2:25.79)
Houck finished first (2:39.41) and Pequignot finished 2nd (2:44.69) in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Cleworth followed up with another big win in the 500-yard freestyle (5:39.18), her third victory of the day alone.
Houck would win the 200-yard IM (2:23.70), her second solo victory of the day as well.
The quartet of Bortner, Cane, Craig, and Cleworth won the 200-yard freestyle relay to finish out the strong victory for the Haven. (1:47.28)

The Bald Eagles will remain on the road and will travel to Newville, Pennsylvania to compete in the John A. Pidgeon Memorial Invitational and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Last Chance Meet tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 18). The day-long competition begins at 10 a.m.
