FAREWELL – This year’s participants: Hannah Bowes, Emalea Mills, Hailey Risley, Ebonee Spriggs, Alanna Tripp, and Renee Werts participated in the March session of the program at the Ross Library in the Rebecca Gross Room. The focus for the day’s programming was on community awareness and team building.

The first activity of the day challenged the students to be creative with several different types of materials to construct a structure that would hold a pair of shoes. The students were paired into three teams. Each of the teams took a different approach to making and completing their final product, although each team successfully built an appropriate structure to hold the pair of shoes.

Angela Harding, Executive Director of the United Way, visited with the students and played an interactive game with them to identify the various services non-profit organizations offer our community. This activity brought a great awareness of the significant resources available to those in need in our region.

The students then reported on their assignment to employ a positive human principle to a relationship that needed improvement. Their lively discussions proved beneficial to the group in proving how implementation of a positive attitude can change lives.

The afternoon session included a presentation by Lou Bernard, Adult Services Coordinator at the Ross Library, who introduced the students to the various tools available in the Pennsylvania Room to look up historical people, places, and events. Each student was given a topic or person to research and reported on their findings. Many of the areas researched provided insight into a very interesting and rich history of notable figures from the Clinton County and Renovo communities.

The day’s activities concluded with the students finalizing their plans for their service project to provide items to active Renovo service members.

The Bucktail Youth Leadership Program is coordinated by Bobbie Jo Simcox and Gwen Bechdel as an activity club at Bucktail High School. The Clinton County Community Foundation and Leadership Clinton County are generous supporters of the activities of the Program. Each session throughout the nine-month program includes a focus on leadership building, communication, and other life skills activities, and a public speaking component is assigned.
