LHU’s Kern hat trick powers Field Hockey to 6-1 victory over Saint Louis
LOCK HAVEN– The Lock Haven field hockey team returned home for the final weekend of the season and soared to a 6-1 victory over Saint Louis in Atlantic-10 action on Friday afternoon (Nov. 1) at Charlotte Smith Field.
Friday afternoon kicked off the final weekend of the 2024 season for The Haven, who won its second straight game to improve to 4-14 overall and 2-5 in the A-10. Saint Louis falls to 2-12 overall and 0-7 in conference.
Alexis Kern sparked the victory for The Haven as the senior recorded her first hat trick and now has five goals in the previous two games. Farah van Dijk also shined, as the junior finished with one goal and two assists to finish with a season-high four points.
Constanza Lopez Zabala and Gracyn Catalano also scored, while Deana Campbell (2) and Brynlee Pinschenat dished out assists.
The six goals scored are the most this season by The Haven.
The Bald Eagles got off to a furious start and found the back of the cage three times in the first quarter alone, led by a pair of goals by Kern. Lopez Zabala also scored in the quarter.
Both defenses settled in from there and Lock Haven carried a 3-1 lead into the break.
However, the Bald Eagles extended their lead to 4-1 after Catalano scored off a dazzling assist from van Dijk.
Kern capped off her heroic afternoon with her third goal of the contest in the final minute of the third period.
Lock Haven rounded out its explosive afternoon with a goal from van Dijk in the sixth minute of the fourth quarter to cap off the 6-1 victory.
In cage, senior Kelsey Felix earned her third goalkeeper victory of the season and finished with a game-high eight saves and just the one goal allowed.
