Central Mountain Girls Tennis Falls to State College in District VI Team Tournament
The Central Mountain girls tennis team faced a challenging opponent in State College during the first round of the District VI team tournament. Unfortunately, the Wildcats were without their top two players, making an already difficult matchup even more of a challenge. Despite the circumstances, the Central Mountain players battled hard in each contest.
“Being without our #1 and #2 girls today was tough,” said the Central Mountain head coach Tom Zettle. “It would have been a tall task even with them, but the girls fought hard and gave their best effort.”
State College ultimately swept the match 5-0, showing their depth and strength at every position.
In singles action, Archie Walker stepped up into the #1 spot for Central Mountain but fell to Joanna Liu of State College 6-1, 6-0. Molly Dubbs, playing at #2, was defeated by Ava Bechtel 6-0, 6-0, while Emily Brinker lost to Emma Chen 6-0, 6-1 at #3 singles.
The doubles teams also faced formidable opposition. The duo of Audra Eaton and Kassie Williams dropped their match to State College’s Abby Chen and Kazie Dingwell. Meanwhile, Central Mountain’s second doubles team of Leah Wian and Tess Akeley lost 6-0, 6-0 to Audrey Brush and Catherine Ma.
Despite the loss, the Wildcats’ determination and effort did not go unnoticed, and the team will look to build on this experience as they continue to grow.
