LHU Men’s Soccer soars to 3-0 victory over Millersville

LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven men’s soccer team soared to an impressive 3-0 victory over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) reining champion Millersville in front of the home crowd at Hubert Jack Stadium on Saturday night (Sept. 21).

Lock Haven scored once in the first half before doubling that effort in the second half to secure a convincing 3-0 non-conference victory.

With the win, the Bald Eagles snap a two-game losing streak against the reigning PSAC Champions, Millersville, who has won four of the last five PSAC titles.

The long-standing PSAC Eastern Division rivalry became a battle of East-West opponents at the beginning of the season when Lock Haven moved to the Western Division for the first time since 2009.

In the first half, a great lead pass by Owen Lichtenwalner and an even better finish by Billy Lawrence gave the Bald Eagles a 1-0 lead. It was the second goal of the season for Lichtenwalner.

Lock Haven goalkeeper Brady Freiwald made four saves in the first half and the Bald Eagles carried a 1-0 advantage into the break.

In the second half, The Haven didn’t wait long to extend its lead as Connor Swope scored off a rebounded shot from Matt Laudenslager. Laudenslager’s attempt was tipped off the cross bar by the Marauder keeper, but Swope was in a perfect position to finish off the goal.

Less than six minutes later, Lock Haven extended its lead to 3-0 after Carter Rosno found the back of the net off a rebounded shot from Swope. The goal was the second in as many games for Rosno and the third point of the match from Swope. Swope leads the club with four assists.

In net, Freiwald didn’t allow a goal for the second straight game and made four saves in 62 minutes. Ethan Beck closed out the game and added a pair of saves. The Haven defense as a whole played exceptionally well, fighting off a game-high 16 shots and 16 corner opportunities from Millersville.

Lock Haven improves to 2-2-1 overall and Millersville moves to 2-2.
