Lady Wildcats Fall to Montoursville
MILL HALL-The Central Mountain Lady Wildcat Soccer team hosted Montoursville on Saturday afternoon in a cross-divisional PHAC non-league matchup at Malinak Stadium. Battling both the heat and a depleted roster, the Wildcats faced tough opposition, missing three key starters. Despite Montoursville’s eventual control of the game, it took them some time to break through the Wildcats’ disciplined and organized defense.
Senior captain Archie Walker made a return to the lineup after missing several games due to illness, immediately strengthening the back line. Freshman Carrah Culvey earned her first varsity start, stepping into the challenging conditions. Montoursville, however, managed to find the net four times before the half, while Central Mountain struggled to generate many offensive chances.
The second half saw Montoursville strike quickly, but the Lady Wildcats continued to show resilience. Their attacking play improved, and they created some promising chances. Senior captain Jazzy Anderson, who has been a consistent threat, scored her second goal of the season in back-to-back games. The goal was a result of a throw-in from Eva Mitchell to Harper Conklin, who found Anderson at the top of the 18-yard box. Anderson fired a laser shot into the back of the net to get the Wildcats on the board.
Freshman goalkeeper Alyssa Ford played a solid game, making several key saves and keeping Montoursville at bay in the later stages of the match. Head coach Ryan Veltri said, Despite the loss, the Wildcats showed significant improvement, particularly in their mental and tactical approach to the game. The young squad continues to grow, and their never-give-up attitude was evident throughout the match.”
Next up for Central Mountain is a tough home contest against two-time state champions Central Columbia, with a 6:00 p.m. kickoff on Monday night at Malinak Stadium.
