CM Boys Soccer Falls to Williamsport 3-2
MILL HALL – Central Mountain’s boys soccer team faced off against Williamsport on Thursday night at Malinak Stadium in a tight back-and-forth contest. The Wildcats started strong, but two second-half goals from Brayden Ungard helped Williamsport secure a 3-2 win in this District 6 matchup.
Central Mountain opened the scoring early in the first half when Bryce Warren connected on a header from a corner kick, assisted by Lincoln Breon, at the 11:07 mark, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. However, Williamsport equalized just over eight minutes later as Tadd Ungard capitalized on a rebound to score his fourth goal of the season at 19:15, making it 1-1.
Isaiah Brinker put Central Mountain back on top in the 23rd minute with a sensational free-kick goal from 30 yards out, lofting the ball over Williamsport goalkeeper Max Fink’s head to make it 2-1 for the Wildcats.
Despite the Wildcats’ first-half lead, Williamsport’s relentless pressure in the second half paid off. Brayden Ungard, who had a standout performance, scored twice. His first came at 71:51 when he slipped a shot past Central Mountain goalkeeper Jaggar Pardoe to tie the game 2-2. Just five minutes later, Ungard was involved again, with the game-winner coming off an own goal by Central Mountain at 76:45, giving Williamsport the 3-2 advantage.
Central Mountain pressed for an equalizer but was unable to break through in the final moments.
The Wildcats, now 3-3-1 on the season, will look to bounce back when they visit Milton Area High School on Tuesday. Williamsport improves to 3-3 with the win.
