Obituary – Anna Marie Mapstone (Randecker)
Anna Marie Mapstone (Randecker) age 95 , passed away gracefully and peacefully at her home in Lock Haven on August 8. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Anna is the daughter of Christian and Annabelle Randecker. She is predeceased by her stepmother Ruth Clark and siblings Christine Confer, Caroline Umstead, Charles Randecker and James Randecker. Surviving her are sisters Gloria ( Dean) Ely and Margaret Englert.
Anna graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1947 and shortly thereafter married her high school sweetheart Ronald Mapstone. They had 70 special years together before Dad passed away in 2017. Their children , Jeff (Linda) Mapstone of Rochester NY, Sherry (Ron) Haffley and Steven Mapstone of Lock Haven survive them. They treasured their eight grandchildren Mark, Craig, David ,Lesley, Maria, Mike ,Janell, and Christian and were blessed with 16 great grandchildren and five great greats. Me Me as she was known to her family will be remembered as a beautiful, spirited , outgoing soul who always put her family first. She was very active and constantly on the go. Her first job was at JJ Newberry department store. Then she moved to the ladies fashion industry making woman’s clothes for Glamorise Foundation and Bobbie Brooks where she rose to supervisor over the finishing department. Later on she worked for Lock Haven University at the Presidents house coordinating and managing social events. It was a position that she was made for and thoroughly enjoyed. Her community involvement was extensive. She worked many years for the Republican Committee in Clinton County and received numerous awards for her service. She was a volunteer at the Lock Haven Hospital and served three terms as President of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Elks Club. Our Mother was a proud and lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and most recently the United Evangelical Lutheran where she had many friends. As much as Anna enjoyed being involved with people , her passion in life was her family. Her children and grandchildren came first and she loved being with them and talking about what they were doing. School events, athletic events, graduations ,weddings, newborn babies all were first on her list. As the children grew, she enthusiastically followed them, but her attention turned to helping her sister Margaret care for their brother Charles and then she cared for her husband Ronald during his last years at home.
Our mother’s life was full of joy and commitment to her family. She was a living example of love for family, and we all saw it and learned the importance of it. Our family is extremely grateful for the health care providers that helped us during our Mother’s last few months. The team from UPMC Hospice Care provided excellent and compassionate care and it made such a difference .
