Clinton Softball 8-10’s Down Athens 8-2, Advance to Championship Game Tuesday
MILL HALL — After suffering a 4-0 loss to Selinsgrove on Sunday at Sectionals, the Clinton softball team bounced back Monday night with a decisive 8-2 victory over Athens in the Section 3 Tournament. This win propels Clinton into the championship game on Tuesday at Central Mountain, where they will face undefeated Selinsgrove. Clinton will need to defeat Selinsgrove twice to claim the championship title.
The game started strong for Clinton, scoring one run in the first inning and adding two more in the second. The highlight came in the fifth inning when Clinton’s offense exploded for five runs, putting the game out of reach for Athens.
Walks proved costly for Athens, aiding Clinton in securing the win. Key performances included a home run by Josey McCann and singles from Madison Edwards and Elise Schultz. Overall, Clinton tallied three hits compared to Athens’ two on the night.
With this victory, Clinton is set to challenge Selinsgrove on Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. at the Central Mountain High School Softball Field.
