Words of Grace
By Rev. Mahlon Nevel
“From generation to generation.”
This phrase is found seven times in the Scriptures.
God is God from generation to generation.
His throne is from generation to generation.
His dominion is from generation to generation.
His Kingdom is from generation to generation.
According to Ecclesiastes 1:4, when one generation passes away, another generation comes along but the earth continues forever.
One generation praises God’s works to another generation by declaring his wondrous acts. (Psalm 145:4) Has our generation Continued that tradition?
Moses called his generation “a perverse and crooked generation.” (Deuteronomy 32:5) Jesus called his generation a “faithless and perverse generation.” (Matthew 17:17) How would we describe our generation today?
“There is a generation.“ (Proverbs 30:11, 12, 13, 14) There are some who believe that these verses give us a picture of the last generation in the end times. It will be:
A generation that curses their father and mother, (v.11)
A generation that thinks they are good, but they are wicked. (V. 12)
A generation that is lifted up with pride. (V. 13)
A generation that is cruel to the poor and needy. (V. 14)
But we are “a chosen generation” in this world. We are here to “show forth the praises of him who has called us out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (I Peter 2:9)
