No. 15 LHU Lacrosse secures important PSAC West win, tops Gannon on the road
ERIE– The No. 15 Lock Haven lacrosse team (12-2, 7-2 PSAC West) raced out to big lead at halftime and the Bald Eagles never looked back as they secured an important late-season Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division win at Gannon (4-10, 2-7 PSAC West), 17-8, today (Saturday, April 20).
With the win, The Haven improved to 12-2 overall on the season and the Bald Eagles are now 7-2 in PSAC West play. With the victory, Lock Haven swept the two-game season series with Gannon as the Bald Eagles also beat Gannon 19-16 back on March 23 at home.
The 12 wins on the season are the most since The Haven won 13 in 2018.
Today, Lock Haven scored seven second-quarter goals and led 10-1 at halftime. The Bald Eagles also got a strong defensive effort throughout and never looked back on the way to the win in a lopsided contest.
Goalkeeper Dana Mirigliano (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) made seven saves and Sam Hauck (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) turned in a strong effort as the two led the defensive effort.
Abby Katrinak (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) turned in a seven-point outing and Gabby Gunnip (Elbridge, N.Y./Jordan Elbridge) scored four goals. Katrinak scored twice and she dished out five assists.
Josey Shaffer (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley) netted three goals, while Nadia Baskot (Damascus, Md./Damascus), Makayla Kelly (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) and Abby Hampson (Adamstown, Md./Tuscarora) all scored twice. Brynlee Pinschenat (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) and Emma Williams (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) each had a goal in the win.
Lock Haven was credited with 15 caused turnovers. Hauck had two caused turnovers and four ground balls. Baskot added four caused turnovers.
