LHU Softball concludes PSAC East series with Shepherd

LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven softball team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader with Shepherd, 3-1 and 5-2, on Saturday afternoon (April 20)

Saturday also served as the program’s “Knock MS Out of the Park” games.

Lock Haven moves to 16-24 overall and 12-16 in the PSAC East. Shepherd improves to 21-23 overall and 11-15 in conference.

Lock Haven split with the Rams on the season, after taking two games at Shepherd earlier this season.

Game 1 Recap: Shepherd 3, Lock Haven 1

In game one, Lock Haven limited the Rams to three runs, which came in two innings, but that was all Shepherd would need thanks to strong starting pitching.

Lock Haven pushed across its lone run in the fourth when Riley McClellan (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) scored on a perfectly executed squeeze bunt by Summer Peters (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg).

McClellan was the Bald Eagles top hitter as she finished 2-for-2 with a triple.

Keiva Middleton (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) was the starting pitcher for Lock Haven and went five-complete innings, allowing three runs on six hits.

Madison Wolfgang (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) tossed two-scoreless innings in relief.

Game 2 Recap: Shepherd 5, Lock Haven 2

In game two, Shepherd opened the scoring with three unearned runs to take an early lead.

Shepherd added an insurance run in the fifth to lead 4-0.

McClellan put the Bald Eagles on the board in the bottom of the sixth with a solo shot to left field. The big fly was the second of the season for McClellan.

Both teams scored in the seventh before Shepherd recorded the final out to seal the victory.

Bald Eagle starter Faith Persing (Montgomery, Pa./Bloomsburg) battled through adversity on the mound and despite landing the loss, did not give up an earned run in seven-complete innings.

Three different Bald Eagles found the hit column, while McClellan homered and Delaney Good (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) doubled and drove in a run.
