LHU Tennis edges out Shippensburg on the road
SHIPPENSBURG– The Lock Haven tennis team edged out Shippensburg, 4-3, on the road in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East match on Saturday (April 20).
The Bald Eagles improve to 8-3 overall and 2-3 in the PSAC East, and Shippensburg falls to 3-15 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
The victory is the second straight in conference play for Lock Haven.
Lock Haven swept doubles play to earn the match point.
At No. 1 doubles, Mia Shuler (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) and Olivia Anastos (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) won 6-3.
Olivia Sharp (York, Pa./York County School of Technology) and Christy McLean (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) came out on top in a tough battle at No. 2, winning 7-6.
To complete the Bald Eagles’ impressive doubles performance, Claire Long (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and Natalie Brown (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) won their matchup 6-3.
In singles, the Bald Eagles won the three matchups they needed to secure the overall contest victory.
At No. 1, Shuler dropped her first set 3-6, before battling back in the second set 6-2 and winning the tiebreaker set, 10-8. It marks Shuler’s seventh singles victory of the season.
Anastos also secured her seventh singles win and the second singles victory for the Bald Eagles in the contest, winning 6-3 and 6-2.
In a close singles battle, Alaina Marchioni (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) won her matchup 6-4 and 7-6 to earn her fourth singles victory.
