Phoenix Battle Hard but Benton Prevails 13-4 in Baseball Clash

LOCK HAVEN – The Sugar Valley Rural Charter School Baseball team fought hard Thursday, but Benton proved to be a formidable opponent, clinching a 13-4 victory.

Benton secured early leads with one run in both the first and second innings. However, the Phoenix rallied in the bottom of the second, scoring three runs courtesy of singles from Cayden Weaver and Lincoln Breon. Despite their efforts, Benton’s strong offensive performance in the third and fourth innings widened the gap, scoring six and five runs respectively. Sugar Valley managed to plate one more run in the fifth inning, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Benton’s lead, resulting in a final score of 13-4 in favor of Benton.

Cayden Weaver and Gage Lucas led Sugar Valley with two hits each, supported by hits from Lincoln Breon, Bryer Martin, Lance Winchester, Laydon Bryan, and Grayson Hastings. Lance Winchester’s double added an extra spark to their offense.

On the mound, Laydon Bryan pitched for two innings, striking out four, walking one, and allowing two hits. Winchester relieved him for one inning, facing ten hits, while Hastings closed the game, pitching four innings, striking out three, walking two, and allowing three hits.

The Benton Tigers secured their victory with 15 hits and 13 runs. Emmitt Yost started as pitcher, earning the win for the Tigers, with Ben Farwell providing relief.

Looking ahead, Sugar Valley is set to travel to Columbia Montour Vo-Tech for a 10 a.m. game on Saturday, followed by a visit to Sullivan County on Monday.
