No. 15 LHU Lacrosse falls at Slippery Rock
SLIPPERY ROCK – The No. 15 Lock Haven lacrosse team fell 22-9 on the road to Slippery Rock in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division game on Wednesday afternoon (April 17).
Lock Haven moves to 11-2 overall and 6-2 in the PSAC West. Slippery Rock improves to 10-1 overall with a 6-1 mark in conference.
The Bald Eagles remain in a strong position in the race to the PSAC postseason as they slide into a tie in the win column for second place. Slippery Rock jumps into first place in the West with the win.
Slippery Rock used a hot start to earn the victory by leading 8-1 after the opening period.
Lock Haven got things going offensively with four goals in the second, but Slippery Rock netted seven as a group to keep the Bald Eagles at bay.
Dana Mirigliano (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) made seven saves for Lock Haven in goal.
Abby Katrinak (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville), Nadia Baskot (Damascus, Md./Damascus), Makayla Kelly (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) all scored twice to lead the Bald Eagles on offense. Gabby Gunnip (Elbridge, N.Y./Jordan Elbridge) added a pair of assists.
Kelly led the team with four draw controls, while Kelsey Schultz (Camphill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) picked up a team-high three ground balls.
On Monday, the Bald Eagles were tabbed No. 15 in the weekly USA Lacrosse Magazine top-20 rankings. The Haven also received votes this week in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Association (IWLCA) Division II national poll.
