Sugar Valley Rural Charter School Softball Faces Tough Loss to East Juniata
LOGANTON-The Sugar Valley Rural Charter School softball team returned to the field on Wednesday, hosting East Juniata in a challenging matchup. Despite a valiant effort from the Lady Phoenix, East Juniata proved to be too formidable, securing a convincing 16-1 victory over Sugar Valley.
East Juniata asserted their dominance early, scoring 7 runs in the first inning, followed by 3 in the third and 6 in the fourth, ultimately sealing the win in just four innings. With a combined total of 20 hits, East Juniata showcased their offensive strength throughout the game.
Despite the tough outcome, the Lady Phoenix managed to get on the scoreboard in the third inning with an RBI from Ellynn Scarborough, driving in Olivia Clester for Sugar Valley’s lone run of the game. Clester and Scarborough were the sole contributors to Sugar Valley’s hits, with Scarborough delivering a double and Clester adding a single to the tally.
Brynn Swanger took the mound for the Lady Phoenix, demonstrating resilience despite the challenging opposition. While striking out one batter, Swanger allowed 20 hits over the course of the game and two walks.
With the loss, the Lady Phoenix now stand at 1-6 for the season. They will have a chance to regroup and bounce back as they prepare to host Benton on Thursday. The Lady Tigers, currently holding a 0-3 record for the season, present an opportunity for Sugar Valley to turn their fortunes around and secure a much-needed victory.
