LHU Tennis sweeps Clarion on the road, 7-0

CLARION– The Lock Haven tennis team swept Clarion, 7-0, on the road in a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon (April 14).

The Bald Eagles improve to 6-3 overall, while Clarion falls to 1-8.

The Bald Eagles started the sweep by taking all doubles matches to earn the match point.

No. 1 doubles consisted of Mia Shuler (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) and Olivia Anastos (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain), who won 6-2, improving their team record to 4-3.

Olivia Sharp (York, Pa./York County School of Technology) and Christy McLean (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe) won a close match at No. 2 doubles, 6-4. Sharp and McLean secured their second victory as a team and their third doubles victories individually.

At No. 3 doubles, Natalie Brown (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and Claire Long (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) dominated with a 6-0 victory. With the win, Brown and Long improve their doubles wins to two and four, respectively.

The Bald Eagles continued their dominance in the singles portion of the match, taking all six singles matches and completing the sweep.

Shuler and Anastos won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, with scores of 6-3 and 6-1 for Shuler and 6-4 and 6-0 for Anastos.

At No. 3 singles, Mary Kathryn Hillman (Williamsport, Pa./Penn College), after going down the first set 6-0, completed the comeback by winning the next set 6-4 and winning the tiebreaker 10-7.

McLean and Sharp both won their singles matches at No. 4 and No. 5, with Sharp winning a close battle 7-6, 6-4. McLean won her match 6-4 and 6-4.

To wrap up the sweep, Alaina Marchioni (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles.
