KCSD NRM Program Release Eels into Bald Eagle Creek

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP-Keystone Central’s CTC Natural Resource Management (NRM) Program recently participated in the Eels in the Classroom (EIC) initiative, a program provided by the Susquehanna River Basin Commission. Students raised five American eels in an aquaponics system and recently released them into the Bald Eagle Creek. The program educates students about the importance of migratory fish like the American eel, which once thrived in the Susquehanna River Basin. These eels begin life in the Sargasso Sea and migrate to freshwater habitats, including the Susquehanna River, before returning to the sea as adults. Through hands-on learning, students gain insights into conservation and ecosystem dynamics.
