LHU Softball falls twice at No. 15 ESU

EAST STROUDSBURG– The Lock Haven softball team dropped a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division contests on the road, 10-2 and 1-0, to 15th-ranked East Stroudsburg University on Saturday afternoon (April 6).

Lock Haven falls to 8-18 overall and 4-10 in the PSAC East. No. 15 East Stroudsburg improves to 27-7 and 9-3 in the PSAC East.

Game 1 Recap: ESU 10, Lock Haven 2

ESU plated runs in the first four innings, before putting up a four-spot in the bottom of the sixth to secure the run-rule victory.

Lock Haven plated its two runs in the top half of the sixth, after Haley Lestician (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) belted a two-RBI double.

ESU led in hits, 12-7.

Bella Schmitt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) and Summer Peters (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) led the charge with two hits and a run scored each. Riley McClellan (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) and Lestician notched doubles, while Lestician drove in a pair of runs.

Madison Wolfgang (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) pitched the entire game for Lock Haven and finished with five strikeouts.

Game 2 Recap: ESU 1, Lock Haven 0

In the nightcap, Lock Haven doubled the Warriors production at the plate with eight hits, while limiting ESU to four. However, East Stroudsburg scored the games lone run in the bottom of the first and pitched a shutout to steal the victory.

After allowing a run in the first inning, game two starter Faith Persing (Montgomery, Pa./Bloomsburg) settled in nicely from there and held the Warriors scoreless for the ensuing six innings to put the Bald Eagles in position to mount the comeback.

Persing allowed just four hits in the game and only two through the final six innings and struck out a pair of hitters.

Delaney Good (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) and McClellan combined for six of the Bald Eagles eight hits, while each stole a base. Peters added a single and a pair of walks.

Next up for Lock Haven:

The Bald Eagles host Bloomsburg on Sunday (April 6) at 1 and 3 p.m. for a PSAC East doubleheader. The afternoon will serve as the program’s Sexual Awareness Day.
