Western Clinton Sportsman Association Holds Annual Trout Release Ahead of Statewide Fishing Season

CHAPMAN TOWNSHIP,  An estimated 8,000- 9,000 brown trout as well as some palomino trout were released into area streams early Saturday morning on behalf of the Western Clinton Sportsmen’s Association and their Laurelly Fork Fish Hatchery.

The event, which marks the countdown to the eagerly anticipated April 6 statewide opening day of trout season, saw dedicated members and volunteers braving the early morning chill to transport the fish from the hatchery to their new homes.

Volunteers of all ages gathered at the Laurelly Fork Fish Hatchery ready to lend a hand. The highlight of the day for many was witnessing the enthusiasm of young anglers as they eagerly assisted in netting the fish from the hatchery’s tanks and carefully transferring them to large containers for transportation to nearby waters.

This annual event not only enriches the local ecosystem but also fosters a sense of stewardship and camaraderie among community members. As anglers eagerly await the official start of trout season, the WCSA stands as a shining example of the power of collaboration and conservation in preserving our natural heritage.
