LHU Men’s Track & Field celebrates seniors, shines at home

LOCK HAVEN– For the second consecutive day, the Lock Haven men’s track and field team was in action, but today (Thursday, March 28) the competition came in the friendly confines of The Haven’s Glen Allison Family Track & Field Complex, as the Bald Eagles hosted the Lock Haven Midweek Meet.

After competing yesterday (Wednesday, March 27) at the Bloomsburg Midweek Meet, today’s action featured mostly relay competition, but once again Lock Haven dominated the field – top to bottom.

In all, Lock Haven posted 11 victories and the Bald Eagles racked up a number of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship qualifying marks.

The Bald Eagles also took time to honor their graduating seniors: Dominic Caputo (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville), Eric Dixon (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy), Austin Melius (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte), Ethan Rogers (Hershey, Pa./Hershey), Neville Smith (Washington, D.C./Friendly), Kohen Stover (Hershey, Pa./Hershey), Tanner Walter (New Columbia, Pa./Milton Area) and Andrew Wehrle (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney).

Today, Lock Haven posted victory in 11 events including: 110mH, 4x100m relay, 4×1,600m relay, 3,000m steeplechase, the shuttle hurdle relay, the sprint medley relay, high jump, 4x800m relay, 4x400m relay, long jump and 10,000-meter run.

The Haven won the 4×1 relay with a time of 43.05 and Lock Haven posted victory in the 4×1,600-meter relay with a time of 18:07.86.

In the shuttle hurdle relay, Lock Haven won with a time of 1:02.20, which broke a 47-year old school record in the event.

Lock Haven finished 1-2 in the sprint medley relay with times of 3:31.18 and 3:41.84, respectively. The winning time marked the third fastest time in school history.

The Haven finished first and third in the 4×8 with times of 8:08.78 and 9:11.11. The Bald Eagles also went first and third in the 4×4 relay with marks of 3:23.69 and 3:23.96.

Austin Kravetz (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) and Josiah Schans (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) finished 1-2 in the in the 110-meter hurdles with PSAC marks of 15.10 and 15.45.

The Bald Eagles swept the top four spots in the steeplechase with all four runners hitting PSAC marks. Walter ran 9:53.82 and won the race. Cade McLaughlin (Ontelaunee Lake, Pa./Berks Catholic) was second (10:01.07), Evan Klinger (Danville, Pa./Danville) was third (10:09.68) and Austin Melius (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) was fourth (10:13.89).

Matthew Muthler (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) had a solid day and won the high jump with a PSAC mark of 6-04. Justice Shoats (Wilkes Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) was second with a PSAC jump of 6-02.

Muthler added a third-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 160-01.

In the long jump, Kwame Whitaker Jr. (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) and Shoats went 1-2. Whitaker won with a PSAC leap of 22-10.50 and Shoats was second in 21-09.50.

Colby Petrizzo (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) and Rogers finished 1-2 in the 10K. Petrizzo hit a PSAC time on the way to the win (33:15.58).

The Bald Eagles hit three PSAC marks in the hammer throw, thanks to Nathan Fetchkan (Newville, Pa./Big Spring), Colton Myers (Boiling Springs, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Eric Zalar (Shamokin, Pa./Shamokin) who finished second (152-04), third (149-06) and fourth (147-05).

The Bald Eagles are set to compete at William & Mary’s Colonial Relays on April 4-6 (Thurs. – Sat.) and several members of the team will compete at Susquehanna’s Jim Taylor Invitational on April 6.
