Wagner’s grand slam lifts Bucktail past Damsels, 10-0

By Bees O’Brien

HOUTZDALE- Bucktail’s Lady Bucks didn’t know what to expect from the Damsels of Moshannon Valley on Wednesday afternoon. It was the first ever meeting between the two programs and the solid District 6 1A squad quickly found out just what District 4 has to offer.

Bucktail would pound out 8 hits and Mak Wagner would put on an offensive clinic against the Damsels, including a walk off fifth inning grand slam to help the Lady Bucks remain perfect with the 10-0, five-inning victory.

Lola English began the game for Bucktail with a single. Wagner would drive her in with a double and Eva Sockman would score Wagner with a double of her own. The Lady Bucks would take an early 2-0 lead on the hosts in the top of the first inning.

Moshannon Valley would be silenced in their half of the inning, which would be followed by a three-run second inning by Bucktail.

The Lady Bucks would add a run in the top of the fourth inning and were leading the pesky Damsels 6-0.

Mak Wagner did damage in the circle too. Moshannon Valley only managed just two hits against Wagner, as she would strike out five Damsels without allowing a walk in four innings of work.

Makenna Stone would finish the pitching duties for Bucktail in the bottom of the fifth inning. Stone allowed just one hit and struck out a batter.

In the top of the fifth inning Bucktail would close out the game. Mak Wagner would tee off on a grand slam that would score Alexis Lowery, Lola English and Makenna Stone.

Up 10-0, Stone would close out the game for the Lady Bucks.

Wagner would go 3 for 4 with the grand slam home run, a double and 7 runs batted in. English also collected three hits for the Lady Bucks by going a perfect 3 for 3 on the day and she scored 3 runs. Sockman and Stone also collected hits for Bucktail.

Bucktail (2-0) have now set up a showdown with District IV 1A challengers and Mid Penn Conference rivals Montgomery (1-0) in Farwell Thursday afternoon at 4:30pm. The game will be livestreamed on The Record Online.
