LHU Lacrosse remains unbeaten, moves to perfect 5-0 behind late-game heroics

FROSTBURG, Md. – Makayla Kelly (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) scored the eventual game-winning goal with just 30 seconds left in the game and goalkeeper Dana Mirigliano (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) made a brilliant save as time expired, and the Lock Haven lacrosse team secured a thrilling, 12-11, victory this afternoon (Friday, March 15) on the road at Frostburg State (4-3).

With the win, Lock Haven improved to a perfect 5-0 on the season.

The 5-0 start is the first since 2016 as the Bald Eagles have outscored the opposition 63-49 through the first five games – all victories.

With the game tied 11-11, Kelly scored a sensational goal off a free-position opportunity. The important late-minute tally put Lock Haven up 12-11.

Following Kelly’s go-ahead goal, Frostburg won the ensuing draw, but The Haven defense put the pressure on and didn’t allow a shot until a desperation attempt was turned away by Mirigliano at the near post. The last-second save proved monumental as the stop secured the victory as time expired.

Nadia Baskot (Damascus, Md./Damascus) scored three goals and Gabby Gunnip (Elbridge, N.Y./Jordan Elbridge) netted three goals and added one assist. Kaitlyn Collins (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) added two goals and she finished with an assist. Kelly’s game-winner was one of two goals in the game for her and she also had a helper in the win. Both Ally Weaver (Sunderland, Md./Huntington) and Abby Hampson (Adamstown, Md./Tuscarora) scored once.

Mirigliano finished with eight all-important saves.

Notably, the Bald Eagles finished the game with a 17-9 advantage in draw controls. Josey Shaffer (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley) had five and Gunnip finished with four.

Collins added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
