LHU Lacrosse outlasts Wilmington; Bald Eagles remain perfect on the season
LOCK HAVEN– The Lock Haven lacrosse team improved to a perfect 3-0 with a thrilling 14-12 non-conference victory this afternoon (Wednesday, March 6) over Wilmington at home on Charlotte Smith Field.
With the win, Lock Haven (3-0 overall) also improved to a perfect 2-0 at home with The Haven’s second straight win on the home turf. The loss was the first of the season for Wilmington (4-1), as the Wildcats entered the game with a perfect record of their own.
For Lock Haven, it marks the program’s first 3-0 start since 2018.
Gabby Gunnip (Elbridge, N.Y./Jordan Elbridge) and Abby Katrinak (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) powered the attack on the day. Gunnip led the way with a five-goal game and Katrinak scored four goals.
Katrinak added two assists and the six-point outing helped her surpass the 100-point mark for her Haven career.
Nadia Baskot (Damascus, Md./Damascus), Josey Shaffer (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley), Ally Weaver (Sunderland, Md./Huntington), Kaitlyn Collins (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) and Makayla Kelly (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) helped fuel the attack with a goal apiece.
Goalkeeper Dana Mirigliano (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) finished with 10 saves, each as important as the next in helping secure the hard-fought win.
Gunnip scored late in the first half and the Bald Eagles trailed Wilmington by one, 8-7 at halftime.
Lock Haven outscored the visitors, 4-2 in the third and the Bald Eagles’ three fourth-quarter tallies helped pave the way for the win.
Wilmington scored with 12:04 left in the game and the goal knotted the score at 12-12, but the Bald Eagles responded in a big way and scored the final two goals of the contest. Gunnip’s goal with 6:46 left put Lock Haven up 13-12 and Collins’ strike with 4:38 left in the game helped ice the victory.
Baskot and Gunnip combined for eight of Lock Haven’s 15 draw controls. Shaffer led the team with three ground balls and The Haven’s tough defense was credited with five caused turnovers.

After two straight games at home, the Bald Eagles will hit the road for a three-game road swing that opens on Saturday, March 9 at D’Youville (12 p.m.).
