LHU Men’s Track & Field land five on Indoor Track & Field All-Region Team

LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven men’s indoor track & field team landed five athletes on the 2023-24 All-region team in the Atlantic Region, as announced this week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The distance medley relay quartet of Andrew Wehrle (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney), Brennan Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg), Kirk Stewart (South Park, Pa./South Park) and Gavin Furey (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) earned the distinction with the third-fastest time in the event after clocking in at 10:08.27 at the GVSU Big Meet Saturday.

Lock Haven also won the DMR at the 2023-24 Indoor Track & Field Championships with a time of 10:17.05 as the Bald Eagles edged out second-place Bloomsburg (10:17.56) in a thrilling race.

Matthew Muthler (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) landed on the list after a dominant showing at the Championships meet, where he placed fourth with 4,780 points.

Standout freshman Kwame Whitaker Jr. (Fredricksburg, Va./Courtland) rounds out the group after his record-breaking indoor season, where he broke the program’s long jump record twice, with his best effort coming at the GVSU Big Meet Friday with a leap of 23.11-75.
