LHU Lacrosse rolls in home opener, downs Daemen 15-8

LOCK HAVEN – Gabby Gunnip (Elbridge, N.Y./Jordan Elbridge) and Abby Katrinak (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) each netted hat tricks, and their strong offensive play helped power the Lock Haven lacrosse team to a 15-8 victory today (Saturday, March 2) over Daemen (0-3) in the Bald Eagles’ 2024 home opener.

With the win, The Haven improved to a perfect 2-0 overall on the young season.

The Bald Eagles’ potent attack also benefitted from a pair of goals from both Nadia Baskot (Damascus, Md./Damascus) and Makayla Kelly (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett).

Lock Haven led 10-2 at halftime and the defensive unit held strong in the second half.

Emma Williams (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley), Kaitlyn Collins (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional), Josey Shaffer (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley), Brynlee Pinschenat (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) and Ally Weaver (Sunderland, Md./Huntington) all added goals.

Williams’ six-point outing was headlined with a five-assist game. Gunnip added two assists and finish with five total points.

Goalkeeper Dana Mirigliano (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) made five saves on the way to the win.

Lock Haven held an 18-8 advantage in draws and also finished the game with the advantage in ground balls.

Mackenna Brown (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) finished with three caused turnovers and four ground balls in an all-around outstanding effort.

The Bald Eagles remain home and will host Wilmington (Del.) on Wednesday, March 6 at 3 p.m. on Charlotte E. Smith Field.
