LHU’s Whitaker Jr. named PSAC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

LOCK HAVEN – Lock Haven men’s track and field star freshman Kwame Whitaker Jr. picked up Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week (Feb. 12, 2024) after his record setting weekend.

At Grand Valley State University’s Big Meet Friday (Feb. 9), Whitaker broke the Bald Eagles’ long jump record for the second time this season with a new program-best mark of 23-11.75 (PSAC) to place fifth overall. The freshman originally broke the generation-old Lock Haven record at the first meet of the season.

The freshman’s long jump holds the top spot in the entire PSAC and is a NCAA DII provisional mark. Whitaker will be the top seed in the conference championships next weekend.

Whitaker wasn’t done there as he also joined the record books in the 200-meter dash with a lightning fast time of 22.19 (PSAC), the fourth fastest time in program history.

Whitaker teamed up with Matthew Muthler (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), Brennan Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) and Aydan Summers (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) to finish 12th in the 400×400-meter relay with a time of 3:20.80. The time is the fastest for the program since 2012.
