LHU Men’s Indoor Track & Field caps impressive weekend at GSVU Big Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Lock Haven men’s indoor track and field team wrapped up the second and final day of competition at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet on Saturday (Feb. 10).

The Bald Eagles continued their standout weekend of record-book performances, personal bests, PSAC marks on the final day of the GVSU Big Meet at the Kelly Family Sports Center in Michigan.

The Bald Eagles are rounding into form at the perfect time with just one meet remaining before the 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships (Feb. 18-19).

The men’s distance medley team of Gavin Furey, Ayden Summers, Andrew Wehrle and Kirk Stewart ran PSAC-leading time of 10:08.27, which also ranks as the 14th-best time in program history.

After his record-setting afternoon on Friday, Kwame Whitaker (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) returned to lead the Bald Eagles in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.21.

Austin Kravetz (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) secured a top-eight race in the 60-meter hurdles with another PSAC time of 8.59. Richard Rouse (York, Pa./York Tech) placed 11th with a time of 8.70 (PSAC).

Jarrett Lee (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) ran an exciting 800-meter run as he broke two minutes for the first time in his career (1:58.59) to win his heat.

In the field events, Ben Streator (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) excelled in the triple jump, leading Lock Haven with a jump of 39-9.5 to finish 10th overall.

Nick Bellomo (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) comfortably secured another PSAC qualifying mark in the long jump, with a leap of 19-10.5. Rouse followed suit with a PSAC mark of 19-7.5.

Bellomo again shattered the PSAC qualifying mark in the pole vault to finish seventh overall with a mark of 14-8.

Josiah Schans (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and Matthew Muthler led The Haven in the high jump with a mark of 6-0.75.

The 4×400-meter relay team of Lorenzo Thompson (Tobyhanna, Pa./Pocono Mountain West), Matt Reinard (Camp Hill, Pa./Cumberland Valley), Lukas Epitropakis (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and Cameron Lewis (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) placed 12th with a time of 3:26.15.

The Bald Eagles travel to University Park, Pa. on Friday, Feb. 16 to compete in the Penn State Tune-Up for their final meet before the PSAC Championships.
