Wildcats take down 2A contenders Neumann, 64-53
By Bees O’Brien
MILL HALL- With only a couple of weeks remaining in the regular season, Monday’s nonconference clash between Central Mountain and St. John Neumann had a big time feel to it.
Neumann has been on the brink of putting together all of their talent and showing that they truly were capable of winning the big one. The return of Joe Savage did bring some positive signs for the Golden Knights and for three quarters it looked as though Neumann was finally starting to gel after a rocky start to the season.
Tyrick Moy and Messiah Baldwin were clicking and the visitors were in control, up 43-39 heading into the final quarter.
Brady Myers and the Wildcats would explode for 25 points in the final quarter, with Myers dropping in 9 of his 16 points in the quarter. Neumann had no answer to the Central Mountain onslaught as they would only manage just 10 points and drop to just 8-8 on the season and now find themselves fighting for a postseason spot.
Hunter Hoy led the way with 20 points for the Wildcats, to go along with Myers’ 16 point effort. Xavier Persun finished with 13 in the win.
Moy and Baldwin each led the way for the Golden Knights with 17 points. Savage added 12 points in the loss.
Central Mountain (11-6) will be looking to close in on a postseason spot tonight with a short road trip to Jersey Shore (2-13) tonight.
