Wildcats Dominate Day One at King of The Mountain Tournament

MILL HALL- The first day of the 32-team King of the Mountain wrestling tournament is in the books and after day one the defending champions Central Mountain Wildcats are sitting atop of the field, with the Warriors of Montoursville close behind in second place. 

The Wildcats advanced nine wrestlers into Saturday’s quarterfinals and totaled 78 points, while the Warriors of Montoursville are second with 68.5 points and four in the quarterfinals. Boyertown is in third place with 66 points, while Mifflin County is fourth with 64 points and six in the quarterfinals. Bald Eagle Area rounds out the top five with 63 points and five quarterfinalists. 

Advancing for the Wildcats were Gavin Heverly (107), Aiden Kunes (127), Luke Simcox (139), Dalton Perry (145), Griffin Walizer (152), Jacob Weaver (172), Bryce Brungard (189), Rocco Serafini (215) and Giovanni Tarantella (285). The Wildcats still have Patrick Tarantella (133) still advancing in the consolation rounds. 

Montoursville advanced Aristotel Bobotas (107), David Kennedy (127), Gage Wentzel (152) and Cole Younkin (215) into the quarterfinals. Bald Eagle Area’s advancers were Tanner Guenot (107), Caden Judice (121), Lucas Fye (127), Caleb Close (189) and Eric Clark (285). 

The Mifflin County Huskies were second the Central Mountain with quarterfinalist, as their six advancers were Andrew Alexander (107), Blake Aumiller (127), Parker Kearns (152), Deakon Schaeffer (160), Avery Aurand (172( and Truitts Davis (285). Locally the Bellefonte Red Raiders had three wrestlers advance, as Wyatt Long (107), Ezra Swisher (139) and Noah Weaver (145) moved into the quarterfinals. 

The State College Little Lions moved three wrestlers into the quarterfinals, as top seeds Asher Cunningham (160) and Nicholas Pavlechko (285) advanced, along with James Whitbred (139). The Little Lions are with standout Pierson Manville (145) who took a break this weekend, after wrestling all summer and then winning the powerful Walsh Ironman tournament in Ohio last weekend. Manville is currently the number one ranked wrestler by Floarena in the country and headed to Arizona State next year. 

Wrestling gets underway Saturday morning with the championship quarterfinals and will run to 4:15 pm when the championship finals are set to get started.
