LHU Women’s Wrestling ranked No. 7
LOCK HAVEN, PA – The latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) NCAA Women’s Wrestling Coaches’ Poll is out (Dec. 7), and the Lock Haven women’s wrestling team has moved up one spot in the team rankings to No. 7.
Previously, the Bald Eagles were ranked eighth nationally.
Individually, both Kaelani Shufeldt and Grace Stem remained listed in the individual national rankings.
Shufeldt is ranked No. 4 at 109 pounds and Stem is ranked No. 3 at 143.
Yesterday, Stem was named the NWCA Region 1 Women’s Wrestler of the Month for November 2023. Stem is 8-2 and all eight of her wins have come by way of tech fall.
The Bald Eagles will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 10 at the Scared Heart Quad. Lock Haven will take on New England College (2-2), Delaware Valley (3-0) and host Sacred Heart (5-2) in dual action.
When Lock Haven takes on host Sacred Heart Sunday, it will be a top-10 battle as the Pioneers are ranked No. 6 this week. Sacred Heart currently features nine ranked individuals.
For Stem, she could potentially face another top-10 opponent as Sacred Heart’s Khadija Sanusi is ranked No. 9 at 143.
The Haven (1-0) opened dual action last week (Nov. 30) at home vs. nationally-ranked Elmira and the Bald Eagles came away with a dominating 35-12 victory. In all, Lock Haven won eight of 10 bouts including four pins.
Last season, the Bald Eagles went 9-5 overall in duals, which included a perfect 3-0 run at home.
