LH Women’s Basketball falls in season-opener at Atlantic Regional Challenge

GREENSBURG, PA – The Lock Haven women’s basketball team kicked off its 2023-24 regular season by taking on Fairmont State in a non-conference game on day one of the Atlantic Regional Challenge and the Bald Eagles fell, 79-66, on Friday night.

The Atlantic Regional Challenge is a two-day event featuring Seton Hill, Fairmont State, Concord and Lock Haven and is hosted by Seton Hill.

Jenadia Jordan (York, Pa./Linden Hall) led the way for the Bald Eagles in the opener, finishing with a team-high 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting, adding five rebounds and three assists.

Alana Robinson (Rockaway, N.J./Pope John Paul II) and Jackie Fetsko (Marion Center, Pa./Marion Center) cleaned up the glass with a team-high eight rebounds each, while Taylor Leidy (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) added four assists.

Madeline Evans (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) poured in 13 points (7-of-8 at the line) to lead the Bald Eagles’ second unit, which outscored Fairmont States 25-9.

Fairmont State shot 67 percent (10-of-15) from the floor in the first quarter to jump out to a 24-15 lead.

Lock Haven’s offense got going in the second period where they shot 56 percent (5-of-9), but Fairmont knocked down 4-of-6 shots from 3-point land to carry a 42-27 lead into the break.

The Bald Eagles turned up their defensive pressure in the third quarter and forced seven turnovers to take the period, 15-12. The Haven led 9-2 in points-off-turnovers in the third.

Lock Haven had its best quarter from the floor in the fourth, knocking down 7-of-15 shots for a game-high 24 points, but Fairmont matched the production by going 6-of-10 from the floor to put the game away.

The battle from behind the arch proved to be the difference, as Fairmont State finished with nine trifectas to the Bald Eagles two.

The Bald Eagles return to the court Saturday at 4 p.m. to conclude their weekend at the Atlantic Regional Challenge hosted by Seton Hill University by taking on Concord in a non-conference contest.
