Nothing but blue skies on Election Day 2023; election night coverage from therecord-online
LOCK HAVEN, PA – The weatherman is doing his part as registered voters in Clinton County go to the polls on Tuesday’s Municipal Election Day. Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will remain open until 8 p.m. As of mid-morning, the turnout was reported as fairly light.
New this year, Clinton County is opening the large courtroom in the county courthouse on Water Street in Lock Haven at 7:30 p.m. for candidates, media and others to gather after the polls close. The Record/therecord-online will resume a longstanding tradition of streaming/covering the election results as they come in, beginning at 8 p.m.. The ballot results are brought by precinct workers to the Piper Building after the 8 p.m. poll closing but members of the public are no longer allowed to gather at the Piper Building unless in an official capacity; that change had been instituted in the May primary, following heightened security at voting offices across the country.
Two races for district justice highlight the Clinton County races. In the Mill Hall area longtime District Judge John Maggs is retiring and Kristen Smith and Heidi Wright are seeking to replace him. The Renovo area sees veteran District Judge Frank Mills challenged by independent Eric Williamson. Lock Haven area District Judge Keith Kibler is unopposed for re-election.
There are three candidates for Clinton County Commissioner and three to be elected so incumbent Republican Jeff Snyder, Republican/newcomer Jim Russo and Democratic incumbent Angela Harding are assured of winning. Incumbent commissioner/board chairman Miles Kessinger did not seek re-election.
There are three contested Keystone Central School Board seats. One of those will see a new board member. The veteran Sugar Valley area/Region I representative Wayne Koch is stepping down and Chris Scaff and Mary Ann Clark are running to replace him. Region VI sees incumbent David Dietrich challenged by William Baldino and Region VIII sees incumbent Rick Schulze challenged by Tom Cannon.
Lock Haven Mayor Joel Long, a Democrat, is opposed for that position by city council member Barbara Masorti who is running as an independent.
Also on the ballot is a retention “yes/no” vote for a 10-year term for incumbent Clinton County Judge Michael Salisbury.
There are also many contested municipal races across the county.
