Obituary – Charles W. “Charlie” Maxwell, Sr.

Charles W. “Charlie” Maxwell, Sr., 81, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023 at The Gatehouse Hospice, Williamsport.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 21, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 925 Huron Avenue, Renovo with Rev. Joseph Orr officiating. A viewing will be held from 12:30-1:30 PM Saturday at Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 Fifth Street, Renovo. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Hyner Cemetery with full military honors provided by Renovo American Legion Honor Guard.

Born on February 22, 1942 in Renovo, a son of the late Mildred L. (White) and Charles W. Maxwell, Sr., he was a 1960 graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School. Charlie served in the US Navy during The Vietnam War. Following his military service Charlie returned to Renovo and joined the family business, Maxwell Furniture Store, which he co-owned and operated with his siblings until their retirement and store closing in 2009. Charlie was proud that the Greater Renovo Area Heritage Park is now headquartered in the former Maxwell Furniture Store building. He was also a part-time associate for many years at Maxwell Funeral Home.

Charlie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served on the St. Joseph Cemetery Committee and was an usher. He was a member and trustee of Renovo BPO Elks 334. Charles enjoyed going to Kettle Creek Inn for breakfast with his friends and spending time at one of his favorite places, their family farm, being outside and feeding the deer.

Mr. Maxwell is survived by a brother, Paul F. and wife Grace Maxwell of Farwell; two sisters, Ann Marie and husband Joseph Woytera of Beach Lake, Wayne Co., and Jeanne Shaffer and her companion Kress Sloppy of Mill Hall; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Janice L. and husband Michael L. Coleman.
