Words of Grace
By Rev. Mahlon Nevel
To have your name mentioned just once in the scripture is a great honor. We pages of holy find the name of a certain woman three times in the gospels.
That woman is Mary of Bethany. It has been pointed out that, in the Bible, Mary of Bethany is always found at the feet of Jesus.
Mary was from the little town of Bethany. She had a sister named Martha and a brother named Lazarus. The Lord Jesus was at their home several times.
In Luke 10 Mary was learning at the feet of Jesus: “Mary, which sat at Jesus’ feet and heard his word” (v.39). Jesus commended her, saying that she had chosen the best part that would never be taken away from her.
In John 11 Mary was weeping at the feet of Jesus. She fell down at his feet because her brother Lazarus was dead. (v.32) When Jesus saw her weeping, he also wept, (v.35)
In John 12 Mary was Worshipping at the feet of Jesus. She took a pound of very costly ointment and anointed his feet. Then she wiped his feet with her hair. (v.3)
Learning at the feet of Jesus. Weeping at the feet of Jesus. Worshipping at the feet of Jesus.
What an example for us to follow!
“I sit as an infant at His feet where moments teach me more than all the toils and all the books of all the ages before.”
