Renovo Elementary and Bucktail Middle/High School held inaugural Career Day

FARWELL, PA-Kindergarten through 6th grade Bucktail Campus Guidance Counselor Devan Everett as well as 7th-12th grade counselor Sherri Gordon, Renovo Elementary and Bucktail Middle/High School presented the inaugural Career Day at both schools Thursday.

The event was held on two different levels, one for the K-6th students and an afternoon session for the 7th-12th grades.

The event featured representatives from as many vocations and professions as possible, as students were able to interact with representatives from the armed services, several types of healthcare, DCNR, PA State Police, Career Link and many others.

For the younger students Everett explained that the goal was introduce students to different professions, perhaps some that they have never thought about, and to start to get a feel how your lifestyle is based around what you do as a profession.

The middle and high school students were privileged to speak to the same professionals as well as college and FASFA representatives. There the goal was to perhaps get the underclassmen thinking about career goals and for the juniors and seniors to have access to connections that they may find useful as some lofty decisions are currently being made regarding their futures.

Questions were continuously asked by the students throughout the day, instant proof that the first career day was a remarkable success. Previously Bucktail high school students attended Central Mountain’s Career Day, before Everett decided to hold the event in Farwell, something that she hopes to grow each year.
